We're just reading Farmer Boy to our 14, 12 and 10-year olds. We love it! Just finished the chapter where the children are left home alone, and end up eating ice cream, cake and pulled candy. But they make it all from scratch themselves!

My two-year-old and four-year-old love the picture books adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House on the Prairie" series. "Winter on the Farm" and "Farmer Boy," the two about Mrs. Wilder's husband, Almanzo, are their favorites. In just a few words, even these abridged versions manage to convey so much information about farm life. My son wants to milk cows!
